Safety and Improvements Coming to Calle Santa Barbara
March, 2023
Community Meeting Brings Change
In January 2022, the Amapas Neighborhood Association (ANA) held a well-attended Community Town Hall Meeting to address growing concerns about Calle Santa Barbara. The road was closed following a landslide, and residents were eager to learn about the next steps. The meeting created space for open discussion and helped shape new plans to improve safety and access in the area.
New Safety Features Already in Place
To make the road safer, ANA has installed highway safety mirrors in key locations. These mirrors help drivers see around corners and spot oncoming traffic more easily, especially along the curvy sections of the road and highway. This small change is already making a big difference for drivers and pedestrians.
What’s Coming Next
The association is planning several upgrades, including the rehabilitation of the Los Pinos stairs, which many residents use to get between Amapas Beach and Los Muertos Beach. These improvements will offer safer access for both locals and visitors. In addition, ANA plans to install signs and traffic calming devices in critical spots. These will help slow down vehicles and remind drivers to watch out for pedestrians, especially in areas where people walk frequently.
Prepared for Emergencies
ANA is also working with the local university and Civil Protection to develop an emergency evacuation plan. This will help residents know where to go and what to do if another landslide or other emergency occurs. Having a clear plan in place increases safety and helps people feel more confident during difficult situations.
Working Together for a Safer Neighborhood
The Amapas Neighborhood Association continues to show its commitment to improving life in the community. These efforts are designed to protect residents, support safer travel, and make Amapas a better place to live.
