ANA’s E-Cycling Day: Turning Trash into Triumph

March, 2023

A Clean Start for Old Electronics

In early 2023, the Amapas Neighborhood Association (ANA) hosted its first electronic recycling event. On a sunny Saturday morning, the ANA office became a drop-off point for neighbors carrying old phones, desktop computers, tangled cables, and other forgotten gadgets. The goal was simple: offer an easy and responsible way for residents to dispose of electronic waste. From items with batteries to anything with a chip, it was all welcome.

Surprising Finds, Strong Turnout

Volunteers helped sort donations into labeled bins for phones, monitors, cameras, cords, and more. One neighbor showed up with a giant desktop computer from the 1990s. A family dropped off three bags full of cords. Someone else brought in a box of broken digital cameras. By the end of the day, a full truckload of electronic waste had been collected – far more than organizers expected.

Helping the Planet, One Drop at a Time

This effort did more than clear out drawers. It kept hazardous materials out of landfills and supported Puerto Vallarta’s environmental health. The strong turnout showed a clear need for more events like this, giving residents regular, local options for safe and sustainable recycling.

The ANA Digital Dumpster: Twice a Year

Following the success of the first collection, ANA President Gary Green announced plans for a biannual event now known as the “ANA Digital Dumpster”. Starting in July 2025, these e-cycling days will take place every January and July, giving residents two opportunities a year to responsibly recycle electronics and declutter their homes.

Why It Matters

Even small efforts make a big difference. In just a few hours, neighbors worked together to clean up the community and protect the environment. The ANA Digital Dumpster makes it easy to be part of the solution. Proper recycling keeps harmful materials out of landfills and supports a cleaner, greener Amapas.
