Hortensias and Gardenias Road Improvement

Upgrades Bring Safer Travel to Hortensias & Gardenias

February, 2015

A Needed Fix for a Busy Hillside

Driving up Hortensias and Gardenias was a bumpy challenge, especially in rainy weather. The steep streets were worn down and difficult to navigate, even for experienced local drivers. Seeing the need for safer access, the Amapas Neighborhood Association (ANA) stepped in to organize a plan for repairs. ANA shared the project details with residents and put together a smart budget. A key part of the solution was installing special grooved tracks designed to give tires extra grip and prevent slipping on the steep hills.

Neighbors and City Team Up

The city agreed to provide the labor, but materials had to be funded by the community. Villa Loma Linda led the way with the first donation. That sparked more contributions, and soon enough, the project had the green light. This was a community-driven effort, with ANA coordinating between donors, neighbors, and city officials. The goal was simple: make upper Amapas safer and easier to reach.

Smooth Work, Fast Results

Construction kicked off in late 2015 at the corner of Hortensias and Highway 200. By 2016, the work was done. The process moved quickly with few delays, a great example of what can happen when everyone works together. The new road surface made a big difference right away. Drivers found the upgraded tracks much easier to use, even on rainy days.

A Touch of Professional Help

One of ANA’s trusted city contacts, an experienced engineer, helped guide the project. His on-the-ground oversight kept everything on track. He also took steps to improve the nearby sidewalks, making the area safer for pedestrians too, showing how small details can make a big impact.
