Larger-than-life musical talent Amy Armstrong, famous for having the voice of an angel and the mouth of a sailor, will be M.C./Entertainer for this year’s Pulpito Drag Derby, Thursday, May 21, at the intersection of Pulpito and Olas Altas, just up from colorful Los Muertos Beach.
Amy will get the party started at five, warming up the crowd with her special mix of humor and song, and introducing Derby contestants in all their sequined splendor as spectators place bets on their favorite drag queens.
Amy will be accompanied and backed up by equally talented Bohemia Viva, aka the dynamic duo Andrea and Luis, also well known Vallarta entertainers.
Amy will also provide her own special brand of running ‘color commentary’ when the Derby itself gets underway at seven, and a dozen contestants in heels and sparkles compete for $8,000 pesos in cash prizes as they run the Pinnacle Stairs and perform tests of skill, coordination and dexterity – all while keeping their wigs in place and seams straight – well, something’s got to be!
It’s all part of Vallarta Pride, and great fun for a good cause – all profits go to SETAC and the Amapas Neighborhood Association.
