Calle Santa Barbara Update
Recent monitoring conducted on April 30, 2026 by ANA, the Save Calle Santa Barbara committee, and City officials found a serious drop in the stability of the Serena Development Hillside.
Ongoing erosion has made the Serena development hillside unsafe. The collapse of Calle Santa Barbara, a public street, occurred during excavation work for the development. Earlier reports from engineers and geologists warned about the instability of the area.
The ground where the street directly above the development was cannot safely support people or vehicles. The retaining wall at Villa Sausalito is also at risk of collapse. The rebuilding of the street above the development hillside is now a major infrastructure issue.
ANA’s continued efforts helped ensure the area was inspected by professionals. Calle Santa Barbara is a public street, so the City is responsible for its repair. This will require significant funding in addition to significant funding from other sources. ANA will share updates as new information becomes available. At this time, ANA is not able to make champion changes to the site or improve access for vehicles or pedestrians.
To avoid misinterpretation from this post, no safety violations or citations were given because of this analysis. This analysis only applies to the Serena development project and the adjacent washed-out roadway section.
